I believe in simplicity, as illustrator and as a person. Simplicity seems a very common and ordinary thing: nothing could be more wrong, I think... Simplicity is a very, very complicate matter, especially when you try to communicate emotions and feelings through a media that acts as a filter between you and the observer. I believe also that a lot of people mistake simplicity for shallowness; it can be true (sometimes a cigar is just a cigar) but I think that this misconception has something to do with a certain belief that places the artist on one side, the public on the other and the photo (or painting or any other art product) in the meddle like a fence. I believe this is a limitative way to deal with art. For me artist and public are on the same side and their relationship must be honest and open and mutual. If is true that the communication starts from the artist, is also true that most of the times his artistic creation is not directed to a specific, designate viewer; the artist simply express himself and the public react in different ways to his actions. It can be indifference, it can be interest, it can be hate or love, all depends on which inner buttons have been pushed. In this kind of straight relationship, I think that half of the job must be done by the artist, the other half by the mind of who's watching. If the observer will open himself just a little to the work of art, a little is what he's going to receive back from the experience. Lower your guard and you'll may discover a whole new world.
I try to create images that challenge people's imagination using everyday objects and situations. My intent is to communicate my personal vision of these subjects (which is usually quite naive and childish) hoping that who's watching can see the world, even for just a moment, in the way I do.
